Ballard Rosenberg Golper & Savitt, LLP Wins Summary Judgment in Whistleblower Retaliation Lawsuit

On June 23 2016, Partner Linda Miller Savitt, Senior Counsel Elsa Banuelos and Associate Rami A. Yomtov, obtained summary judgment in Carl Taswell v. The Regents of the University of California, et al. (Orange County Superior Court Case No. 30-2013-00659259-CU-WT-CJC). The Plaintiff claimed that he was retaliated against and wrongfully terminated for allegedly reporting patient safety issues. He also claimed that The Regents defamed him by making false statements to prospective employers during subsequent job searches. The court dismissed the entire case, finding that the Plaintiff was not retaliated against, and that he could not get a “second bite of the apple” since he previously had his claims adjudicated through the Regents’ internal grievance mechanisms.
